Mallya officially turns towards 2009!

The owner of Force India, Vijay Mallya, is convinced that his team will be much more competitive next season, that is, for its second year in F1.

The Indian billionaire, who owns the Kingfisher brand, admits that the year is difficult but now understands the challenge ahead of him and expects a big step forward in 2009. The numerous changes in technical regulations will be an asset for next year.

« Force India clearly demonstrated that it could improve. Having touched Formula 1 is really something extraordinary and reinforces the challenge I have ahead of me for 2009 to be genuinely competitive, » he commented.

« I wish to make up for lost time over the last three seasons. »

« I am very optimistic, and my experience to date is leading us in the right direction. I now know precisely what we are worth, and I can better plan the course of events. In 2009, the Force India team will be much more competitive. »

Mallya also explained that the new gearboxes the cars will have at the Valencia Grand Prix will be the last development of this season. The focus will then be directed towards the 2009 car.

« We did not opt for the seamless gearbox change in Budapest but we will implement it in Valencia. Development for 2008 is now complete and the goal is to develop a truly competitive car for 2009, » continued Mallya.

Finally, he hints that he plans to retain both drivers, Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil, for the next season.

« I have two good drivers. Giancarlo’s experience is invaluable and Adrian is very talented. I think he is improving race by race. »

« I am very happy with them, and more importantly, they have a great attitude that will allow me to face the challenges of tomorrow. I think they will be very pleased to drive the car in 2009. »
