Sébastien Bourdais believes he has made progress on Sebastian Vettel, the second driver for Scuderia Toro Rosso.
The four-time Champ Car champion scored only two points in the standings at the first F1 Grand Prix of the season in Melbourne. Since the arrival of the new STR3 at the Monaco Grand Prix, the Frenchman has been consistently outperformed by his teammate.
He admits that he can’t get the best out of the car but believes he is improving.
« We all have a different driving style unique to ourselves. Mine is not well-suited to a car that is fast in the corners, » he stated to L’Equipe.
« I can’t manage to adapt to this single-seater while Sebastian is doing better. »
« I found several little things that will help in understanding the STR3 and even though I’m still not totally comfortable with it, it’s improving little by little. »
Bourdais concluded by stating that he has made more progress since he started focusing on minor modifications rather than major changes.
« I somewhat regret the time I spent looking for big ideas to adapt the car to my driving style. Now, I am focused on a few details, taking small steps that seem to be paying off. It’s still complicated, but that’s how it is. »
