Nick Heidfeld stated that he would like to see the Formula 1 calendar with even more races.
The number is set at 19 for next season with the addition of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will close 2009. The calendar could still see new events by 2010 with the Indian and South Korean Grand Prix. The United States is also expected to return in the near future.
While many teams and their drivers are hesitant to increase the number of races, Heidfeld wants to see more races but also fewer tests.
« I look forward to discovering new circuits in the future. I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of one or two fewer practice sessions, » commented the BMW-Sauber driver.
« In fact, the tests have already been reduced by two or three sessions over the past years, but I hope that we will have more races in return. »
Heidfeld also welcomes the addition of new F1 events as well as a potential return to Indianapolis.
« I am eager to go to India as well as any other circuit currently under discussion, » he added.
« It is regrettable that Indianapolis is no longer on the calendar. But I believe there’s a good chance that we will return to the United States again. »
