A major overhaul of the Creek track layout in Australia could be enough for the country to decide to host the Formula 1 event there when Melbourne’s contract expires.
This is the opinion of one of the main supporters of the Sydney circuit who believes that if the plans for a track revision are approved, a new night race will take place.
Allan Moffat, member of the board of the Australian Racing Drivers Club who requested a report on the track’s conversion, believes that this upgrade could put it at the top of the list to replace the Melbourne Grand Prix after 2015.
« If Melbourne refuses to organize a night Grand Prix, it will make Bernie Ecclestone sick, » said Moffat to the Australian daily newspaper Daily Telegraph.
From that moment on, we will be able to take the advantage. Admittedly, it will cost three times more in development. We have the space to host this event here in the Blacktown region, the area with the strongest growth in Australia.
This report presents new projects, including, among others, a new track configuration with a reverse direction. The work could be completed within two years.
Clive Bowen, from Apex, the company that prepared the new plans, said: « The circuit would be one of the most exciting and demanding in the country and on par with other international tracks. »
« It was designed for the most seasoned of pilots. »
