Ron Dennis remains more than 100% committed to his team while rumors suggest retirement at the end of the season.
The German magazine Auto Motor und Sport reported this week that Dennis would be looking to retire at the end of the year on the sole condition that McLaren manages to win the Formula 1 World Championship.
The magazine also suggested that everything was being done to ensure the 2008 season was synonymous with success by continuing the development of the MP4/23, perhaps at the expense of the 2009 car.
But a McLaren spokesperson took the lead in refuting these retirement rumors and stated that the director’s plans have not changed.
« The articles suggesting that Ron is considering stepping back or that he will leave the team if the World Championship is won by Vodafone McLaren Mercedes this year, are based solely on speculation, » said the McLaren team spokesperson.
« Ron has repeatedly stated that he has not made any decision regarding this matter. At the moment, the focus is on Grand Prix victories, and this applies to this season, the next season, and the season after and so on. »
« Consequently, we are maintaining the development of our 2009 car at levels we have determined ourselves while continuing to improve the 2008 single-seater, race by race, trial by trial. »
