Felipe Massa stated that he can no longer afford to lose points as he did in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Brazilian led a large part of the race before he fell victim, with three laps to go, to an engine failure that deprived him of a victory at the Hungaroring and 10 points in the standings.
Massa, more than frustrated, admitted that this retirement was hard to take.
« I don’t want to forget the Hungarian GP because in a way, it was one of my best races in Formula 1 but it didn’t result in a victory, » explained Massa.
« It was shameful because I really think the team and I deserved this success: We had a perfect race at a very important moment in the championship. Unfortunately, we couldn’t bring back the ten points. It’s really frustrating, but moments like this happen sometimes in motorsports. »
« When the engine gave out on me, I had a strange feeling. It was like a nightmare and I wished more than anything to wake up, but I couldn’t because I was already awake. It was a huge disappointment. This sport can be very cruel, » added Räikkönen’s teammate.
Despite this setback, Massa is still in the race for the title and remains calm as he is only eight points behind Lewis Hamilton.
« In view of the standings, I need to stay calm. We lost ten points last weekend, but the positive aspect is that we are still just as competitive. »
« The team did an excellent job throughout the weekend, in terms of strategy but also in its ability to eliminate the problems we had in England and Germany, » concluded Massa.
