Kimi Räikkönen stated that it was crucial for him and his team, Scuderia Ferrari, to solve their qualifying problems to get back on the path to winning races.
The reigning world champion started the Hungarian Grand Prix from sixth place, which is the same position from which he began the German Grand Prix two weeks ago.
The Finn showed a good pace at the end of the race and finished in third position at the Hungaroring. However, he claimed he could have done better if he hadn’t been stuck behind Fernando Alonso for so many laps.
« I think we could have had a better race. We were stuck behind Alonso, » commented Räikkönen.
« I was stuck behind him until the second stop. I had a good car and was then able to catch up with Timo Glock. »
« We were a bit lucky because other drivers in front of me retired. We have speed, but if we don’t improve in qualifying then we will have the same problems. We need to solve these. »
Räikkönen put pressure on Timo Glock during the final laps, but in the end, the Ferrari driver had to back off and settle for finishing third.
« It is very difficult to overtake on this track, you need something special in a corner. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do it. Third place, it’s not so bad. After such a difficult weekend, it’s a good result, » he concluded.
Räikkönen is now in second place in the standings, five points behind Lewis Hamilton.
