Timo Glock achieved his first Formula 1 podium after an incredible second place at the Hungarian Grand Prix. It’s important to remember that the young German was in the hospital two weeks ago following his terrible accident in Germany.
He finished the race just behind Heikki Kovalainen’s McLaren, also taking advantage of the mechanical problems of Massa and Hamilton.
Glock managed to withstand the pressure exerted by Kimi Räikkönen at the end of the race, and with incredible maturity, he achieved his first good result in Formula 1.
« It’s incredible. I couldn’t believe it when I saw Felipe Massa’s engine fail, and as a result, I took second place. I was under pressure from Kimi, with soft tires, and I gave it my all to resist. We knew since Friday that the soft tires would be difficult to control, » acknowledged Glock.
« I have a very good car. It was perfect until the last lap. For my first year in Formula 1, it’s a joy. »
Glock admitted that no fault was possible because Räikkönen was faster.
« During my last GP2 season, I was stuck in the middle of the pack even though I had a good car. At the time, I wasn’t able to overtake any driver. In F1, it’s even more difficult. I saw Räikkönen in my mirrors and I knew I couldn’t afford to make a mistake, » concluded the GP2 champion.
Jarno Trulli’s seventh place allowed Toyota to consolidate its fourth position in the Constructors’ Championship.
