Hungarian GP – Toyota: The team wants to get back to scoring points!

The Toyota team arrives in Hungary somewhat demotivated by its results in Germany two weeks ago. The Japanese team did not score any points then and arrives for the 11th event of the year with an important goal for the team’s position in the championship.

In Hungary, the circuit is very close aerodynamically to the Monaco circuit. The Hungaroring indeed offers tight turns and few long straights. Therefore, the setup will favor aerodynamic downforce, and it is with this in mind that Toyota is bringing new features to the TF108.

The shark fin, extending the engine cover, will thus be adopted by the single-seaters of Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock for the first time starting this Friday.

Jarno Trulli – Race Driver

I really like running here. It’s a very narrow track with a lot of turns, so it’s quite fun. Nevertheless, the danger is very present since you can’t afford the slightest mistake if you don’t want to go off track or have an accident.

« Once again, qualifying will be crucial and overtaking will be difficult here, especially as the heat is expected and will reduce the drivers’ lucidity. » continue the Italian.

« We have often been competitive in Hungary and have proven that we can fight for good positions during qualifying. Therefore, we expect to score points here; that’s the goal. »

Timo Glock – Racing Driver

“After my accident at Hockenheim, I am fine and motivated. I was able to relax a bit at home and had a day of private testing in Jerez, so I am ready for this weekend.”

“I really appreciate this city and this circuit, where we dance the twist a little! he exclaims.”

« We will have a special aerodynamic package here. I trust the engineers to perform well tomorrow in qualifying. It will be important to avoid overtaking, which is very difficult to do here. I had the opportunity to do some in GP2 last year, but it is really something else in F1. My goal will remain the top 6.

Pascal Vasselon – Technical Director

« In Hungary, we need a single-seater with a different aerodynamic perspective. This will be the case with a specific package, modified since the Monaco GP. It has been tested and we are satisfied with it. »

« The other issue to tackle will be the tires. It’s very hot here and the track is dusty because it’s rarely used the rest of the year. Therefore, grip is low and the tire wear rate is accelerated. We’ll have to manage, but we are confident. »

« Last year, we finished in the top six here and we absolutely wanted to score points to make up for the lost work in Germany. We are fighting for 4th place in the championship with Renault and Red Bull and our goal must be reached! » Announced the Frenchman.
