Mike Gascoyne confirmed that the Force India team will not use the new Seamless gearbox for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Indian team tested this new technology in Jerez during private testing last week. According to Mike Gascoyne, the technical director, the drivers’ feedback has been very encouraging, but there hasn’t been enough time to implement this quick-shift gearbox as early as this weekend.
Force India should however use this gearbox during free practice this Friday but only use it in the race at Valencia, for the European Grand Prix.
« We were impressed by the tests last week with this new gearbox. The drivers’ feedback was very positive. However, we haven’t accumulated enough mileage to use it in this GP. »
« Indeed, we are currently on cycles of 4 Grand Prix to complete with the same gearbox, and in Hungary, it will be the 4th. We will therefore use the improvement in Valencia. »
Mike Gascoyne believes that this is the best solution: « We will avoid penalties by not changing the gearbox, and we will have more kilometers to ensure the reliability of our new gearbox. »
