Toyota has determined the cause of Timo Glock’s accident in Germany. It could have originated at the British Grand Prix that took place two weeks earlier.
The German driver was involved in a violent accident on the 36th lap of the Hockenheim race after his right rear suspension broke at the start of the pit straight.
Toyota stated this Monday that one of the components used on the German’s car during the British Grand Prix, which had been carried over to Hockenheim, failed due to damage caused at Silverstone.
The Japanese team has now announced that it will modify its inspection process and is confident that there will be no further issues.
In a statement, Toyota explains: « Following Timo Glock’s accident during the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, Toyota Motorsport conducted a thorough investigation. »
« A rear suspension failed, which caused the loss of control of the single-seater. We confirm that there were no exceptional circumstances before or during the incident at the German Grand Prix. »
« An investigation established that the damage accumulated during the British Grand Prix two weeks earlier was the cause. During this race, Timo Glock had several problems. »
« As every year, certain elements from the British Grand Prix were carried over to Hockenheim, including the right rear suspension. Although these parts underwent testing and a selection process, the component was usable in Germany. »
« Following this investigation, Toyota Motorsport revised its inspection process by including new measures. »
