Renault offered this weekend a new extraordinary demonstration in the streets of Johannesburg, in partnership with the Gauteng Provincial Government. After the Technocentre last June, the Renault Roadshow was in South Africa this weekend for an exceptional demonstration in the Sandton area of Johannesburg.
Last year, Renault already offered a remarkable show in this part of the city in front of nearly 100,000 spectators and has decided to renew the operation this year in partnership with the Government of the Province of Gauteng. Nelson Piquet, who clinched his first podium in the premier category at the last German Grand Prix, and Lucas di Grassi, the team’s third driver, were both present to meet the South African public who came in droves. Donuts, burns, and other stunts delighted the 60,000 spectators who came on Sunday to witness this extraordinary event.
The Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs of the Gauteng Province, Paul Mashatile, commented following the demonstration: « This partnership with Renault is an opportunity for us to promote the benefits of our province on an international scale. It strengthens our efforts to position Gauteng as a top-tier tourist and business destination. »
« Our investment in this partnership underscores our desire to boost the sports sector, which has the potential to create jobs and stimulate our growth. This partnership is fully in line with our desire to support the automotive sector in our Province.
Nelson Piquet commented as he exited the cockpit of the R27: « I really enjoyed participating in this event last year, but this year, we were welcomed even more warmly! I had a lot of fun doing this demonstration, and I hope the public appreciated it too! »
Lucas Di Grassi added: « This Roadshow program is a unique experience for the audience who can experience F1 up close! The audience was remarkable, we were superbly welcomed, and I sincerely hope that the audience enjoyed this demonstration because that was truly our goal today! »
