Renault’s strong performance as they test the tires

Renault conducted its third day of private testing today at the Jerez circuit. Nelson Piquet was behind the wheel and completed 95 laps of the Spanish circuit, concluding his program with the team for this week.

As in the last two days, during which the temperature was terribly high, the thermometer showed 46° today in the middle of the afternoon. The team started the day with grooved tires to establish a baseline and understand the car. It then switched to the 2009 configuration with slick tires. Goal: to start preparations for next season.

The team made good use of the six sets of tires at their disposal, with Nelson accumulating a large number of kilometers and gathering a lot of useful information for the design of the 2009 car. For tomorrow, Romain Grosjean will return to the wheel for his second day of work with the team this week. His ambition will be to gain even more confidence behind the wheel of the R28.

Nelson Piquet – Racing Driver

« It was very hot today, but that’s been the case all week, so we’re starting to get used to it! We spent most of the day preparing for next season with slick tires, which was interesting. They provide a lot of grip, and the car was performing well under these conditions. We also worked on the settings, assessing several changes and improving the overall balance. In summary, a good day of work. »

Christian Silk – Chief Test Engineer

The car performed well today and Nelson quickly got into the rhythm. We started the day working on the current season with grooved tires, and then continued with the 2009 tires in preparation for the next season. The initial signs are encouraging and we collected a lot of information without encountering any problems. All this data will be analyzed at the factory and will be used when we work on the next single-seater.
