Jerez – Day 2 – Vettel repeats the performance

Scuderia Toro Rosso, through Sebastian Vettel, remained at the top of the timesheet on the second day of testing at the Jerez circuit this Wednesday.

The German driver, who was also the fastest yesterday, was the only driver to complete a lap in less than 79 seconds, posting a best time of 1’18”843.

The teammate of Sébastien Bourdais is one of the five drivers to have used slicks today.

Pedro de la Rosa for McLaren finishes second, the Spaniard used a car with a 2009 configuration including slick tires and aerodynamics. In the afternoon, he reverted to the tires used this season.

Kimi Räikkönen finishes in third position and did not use slick tires. Behind him, we find in order Nico Rosberg, Mark Webber, and Alexander Wurz, who did equip themselves with slick tires during part of the day.

The Honda test driver, Alex Wurz, was responsible for the only red flag of the session, likely due to an engine problem around midday.

Jarno Trulli’s Toyota ranks eighth with 81 laps completed. The Italian worked today in the 2008 configuration, while the first day was dedicated to 2009 settings.

« After yesterday and the study of certain points for 2009, today we focused on the current year. Our goal for the day was preparation for the Hungarian Grand Prix, particularly in terms of setting up the car. We did it this morning because this afternoon there was too much wind and it was too hot, » said Trulli.

« After lunch, we worked on the aerodynamics to correlate the aero system with the variations of the Hungarian circuit. We made progress thanks to a large number of laps. »

« Today, we were not looking to make the best lap time but to improve the car. In the championship, we are fighting for 4th place, that’s our goal. »

His compatriot, a certain Tonio Liuzzi, finished just behind him with his Force India. He only joined these four days of testing today and therefore missed the first day.

The Renault of Nelson Piquet and the BMW-Sauber of Christian Klien finish at the bottom of the table.

The day was extremely hot with air temperatures of 37 degrees and track temperatures of around 50 degrees.
