The team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali, believes that the recent slight uptick in performance by the McLaren team means a repositioning of the team in the race for the constructors’ title. The battle remains completely open.
Although the top speed of the McLarens during the British Grand Prix in both dry and wet conditions, as well as their pace in testing at Hockenheim last week, have improved, Domenicali considers both teams to be on equal footing.
« We are not surprised because the McLarens have always been competitive, » stated Domenicali this week.
« The British team was able to demonstrate its potential, but we are aware of its strengths. It will be a great battle until the end of the championship.
Even though both Ferraris and both McLarens have scored a lot of points this year through their drivers, Domenicali believes that the championship results will depend on which car has been the best developed.
« I don’t think the title is just between Ferrari and McLaren, » he added.
« If I’m not mistaken, there is a team called BMW that is second in the constructor standings and a driver, Robert Kubica, who is two points away from the leading trio. I said from the start, this is a three-team battle. »
« As usual, the winner will be the one who has succeeded in advancing their car in the best possible way and made the fewest mistakes. »
Speaking of mistakes, the Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa, believes that his team must maintain a high level of concentration after their recent issues at the Grand Prix overseas.
« After Silverstone, Ferrari worked hard on many aspects such as improving on-track procedures. I won’t give you all the details because it’s confidential information, » continued Massa.
« But we know we must act to ensure that certain mistakes do not happen again: This must be one of our goals from now until Brazil. »
