Vettel: Could he become the new ‘Schumi’?

Sebastian Vettel stated that he was annoyed by the comments portraying him as the next Michael Schumacher. The German will participate in his first home Grand Prix this weekend at Hockenheim.

He impresses a lot in his first full season in Formula 1 as he scored points in Monaco and Canada after, admittedly, a series of retirements in the first four races of the year.

He is considered a rising star with a potential that doesn’t envy his compatriot and predecessor, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher. But the 21-year-old driver does not want to play the game of comparisons.

« You cannot believe what people say to each other or have in their minds. For my part, I have my own goal, » stated Vettel.

« For each lap in each race, I try to do my best. »

« If someone says you’re good, it makes you happy but it doesn’t contribute to improving my performance on each lap of the race. In the end, it’s important not to listen too much to what people say or you’ll get lost. »

Vettel added that things haven’t changed much for him despite his status having developed over the past 12 months.

« My life hasn’t changed much, I am very rarely recognized, » he explained.

« I am still the same person. When I have free time, I like to do the same things with my friends. It’s very easy to stay in touch with friends and I think it’s very important. »
