Winning money or races, Vettel has made his choice

Sebastian Vettel stated that he would prefer to have a more competitive car in order to win races rather than to earn a lot of money.

The German, who made a sensational Grand Prix debut with BMW in 2006 before moving to Scuderia Toro Rosso last season, has only participated in 17 races but is considered one of the rising stars in the sport.

He has been linked to David Coulthard’s seat at Red Bull Racing for next year because the Scot announced that he would retire at the end of the season.

As for the 21-year-old driver, he is happy with his current situation but admits that he would like to be in a team that allows him to win races.

« I am very happy with my team today but I am hungry for victories, » stated Vettel.

« I want to learn more. I am very happy with my situation, but my goal is to be in a competitive single-seater and to be in a position that allows me to believe in victory. That is my priority. »

« For the rest, as long as I have enough to eat and go out to a restaurant some evenings, that’s fine with me. For me, the most important thing is racing. »

« If I had to choose between earning a lot of money and being behind the wheel of a good car, I’d rather sleep in a tent, brush my teeth every morning with a bottle of water, but have the best possible car well-positioned on the grid, » explained Vettel.

The German further claims that he is not concerned about the future of his Toro Rosso team, despite the possibility of a sale.

« No, it would be a mistake if it were done, » pursued Vettel when asked if he was worried.

I’m keeping my head on my shoulders and trying to do my best. After last year’s races in Japan and China, everyone said, ‘ah, you proved that you deserve to be in Formula 1’.

« I tried to do my best, and beyond that, I can only do better. For me, thinking about all these negative things affects my performance on the track. I don’t have much experience in F1, but I have done a lot of karting. »

No matter what you do. In the end, you just need to focus. You must continually progress, learn, and develop as a driver and a person, concluded Sébastien Bourdais’s teammate.
