The United States remains open to F1

Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s boss, Joie Chitwood, stated that the doors remained open for Formula 1 to return for a race, even if the provisional 2009 schedule did not include it.

Indianapolis was absent this season for the first time since 2000, but the circuit’s officials remained hopeful of finding a sponsor that would make it possible for the race to return next season.

However, the FIA has released the provisional calendar for next year, and the United States Grand Prix was not included.

Carl insisted that it was essential to find a sponsor if the race were to return to America and clearly stated that the future had not darkened.

« I continue to believe that F1 has its place in the United States, but promoting the race is essential; it is a crucial element, » explained Carl, the president of the Indy Star.

Carl does not rule out an offer for next year, but he admitted that the situation was getting more and more difficult every day.

« The door remains open for the future. The dialogue continues. »
