Which direction after Magny-Cours?

Two Frenchmen involved in the world of Formula 1 hope that their country will not be removed from the official calendar.

The F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, has warned that this weekend’s event at Magny-Cours will be the last.

He wishes for the French Grand Prix to take place in the ‘vibrant’ capital Paris, but it seems unlikely that a solution will be ready for 2009.

« That would be for 2010, and then what happens in 2009? » Declared the four-time world champion Alain Prost through the news agency ‘Press Association’.

Prost added that it would be a mistake for Formula 1 to part with its traditional venues in Europe.

Magny-Cours is located in a rural area in the center of France and is rarely cited as a favorite place. However, the technical director of the Toyota team, Pascal Vasselon, another Frenchman, enjoys what he describes as a circuit with an anti-stress atmosphere.

« I am particularly sad because we do not know what is happening next door. »

« It wouldn’t be so bad if we knew that the race was taking place in Paris or elsewhere, but for now it seems that no specific plan is in effect. »
