Nelson Piquet set the fastest time on the final day of testing in Barcelona.
The Renault driver, who was on track for two of the three days, completed 112 laps and beat the McLaren of test driver Pedro de la Rosa by 0.4 seconds.
The Spaniard caused the last of the day’s five red flags when he stopped on the track with a wing issue in the final hour.
After being the fastest for Ferrari on Thursday and Friday, Luca Badoer finished third today. However, the Italian test driver said he was overall satisfied with what he accomplished this week.
« These were overall positive tests. We were able to work continuously and without major technical issues. We observed interesting results from our new components, which could prove useful in upcoming races, » stated Badoer.
Mark Webber (Red Bull) and Timo Glock (Toyota) finish in the top five.
Nick Heidfeld is only the sixth fastest driver for BMW, but he felt that he had made progress regarding his tires, which affects his qualifying session in the last Grand Prix.
The day thus saw five red flags in total, with, for example, a minor off-track excursion for Williams’ test driver, Nico Hülkenberg, at turn 4.
