Ferrari test driver, Luca Badoer, maintained his momentum by staying in the lead at the end of the second day of testing at the Catalunya circuit.
The Italian achieved a time of 1’21”013 to finish on the top step of the podium.
Badoer is followed by McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa by more than three-tenths, then Toyota’s Timo Glock in third position ahead of Williams’ Nico Rosberg and Red Bull’s David Coulthard.
The championship leader, Robert Kubica, completed his planned two-day program with BMW Sauber. The Pole continued work on the aerodynamics and the setup of the F1.08 for the French Grand Prix.
His teammate, Nick Heidfeld, will finish these tests in Barcelona for BMW tomorrow. The German hopes to make progress on his qualifying issues.
The Toro Rosso team participated in today’s session, and only Force India was absent.
There were a total of three red flags during the session.
The first was caused by Nelson Piquet’s Renault, which had a gearbox problem in the morning. This was followed by a hydraulic failure from Badoer in the afternoon and a similar issue for Glock’s Toyota just before 3 PM.
The session took place on a dry track for most of the day, but a 20-minute shower around 10 a.m. hindered the start of the tests.
These will end tomorrow.
