Barcelona Testing – Day 1 – Badoer and Ferrari on Top

Luca Badoer set the fastest time for Ferrari on the first day of testing in Barcelona.

The Italian test driver therefore takes first position with a time of 1’22”043 in the morning and remained in the lead for the rest of the session, which saw little action in the last hour due to rain. He spent the majority of the day focusing on aerodynamic developments.

Buoyed by his victory in Montreal, Robert Kubica took second place in his BMW Sauber, 0.2 seconds behind Badoer. He had a mechanical problem early in the day but was able to continue racing after repairs.

David Coulthard and Sébastien Buemi are third and fourth for Red Bull Racing after sharing the same car. Buemi drove in the morning and stopped twice on the track before handing over to Coulthard for the afternoon. The Scot managed to take third place despite completing only 21 laps before the rain.

McLaren test driver Gary Paffett completes the top five, ahead of former Super Aguri driver Anthony Davidson returning to test for Honda.

The GP2 driver, Romain Grosjean, completed his first test day for Renault but was delayed due to an engine problem. He eventually completed 60 laps, achieving the eighth fastest time, between Nico Hülkenberg’s Williams and Kamui Kobayashi’s Toyota.

“It was a great day for me to have had the opportunity to test the R28 and work with the team,” Grosjean declared.

« It is interesting to see the difference between a GP2 car and an F1 car, which is absolutely incredible, particularly in terms of acceleration and grip. »
