GP – Race – Kubica scores his first victory!

The sky is overcast above Montreal a few minutes before the Grand Prix. The track is nevertheless dry. The wind is blowing over the circuit. We can see Kubica on hard tires, while Hamilton is on soft tires. Two drivers will start from the pit lane: Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel.

Here we go! Hamilton gets an excellent start and stays in the lead after the first corner. Kubica strives to close the door on Räikkönen, who is right behind him. Rosberg overtakes Alonso. Bourdais is 18th and tries to find an opening on the two Force India cars.

Heidfeld, in 9th place, tries to overtake Barrichello. He narrowly avoids touching the Honda and makes a sharp turn. He gains the upper hand a few seconds later, thus entering the points.

Piquet passes Glock for 14th place. The Renault driver then speeds like a cannonball towards Trulli. The two drivers touch, without apparent damage. Piquet nevertheless manages to get the upper hand on the Toyota driver.

Sutil goes off track and retires. His car obstructs the track, and the race officials decide to deploy the safety car. As a result, all the leading drivers enter the pits simultaneously! And the unthinkable happens… As Räikkönen finishes refueling first, he is neck and neck with Kubica on the pit straight. But the light was red! Consequently, both drivers brake at the same moment. Hamilton brakes too late and crashes into Räikkönen’s car. It’s a retirement for both drivers.

Heidfeld leads the race. He refuels, and it’s Barrichello who takes P1. It had been a long time since the Brazilian driver had been first in a race. He refuels, and it’s Kubica who takes the lead again.

Alonso has been behind Heidfeld for several laps now. He can’t overtake the German. He attempts an attack at the Casino hairpin brake zone, but he misses and goes straight. Heidfeld crosses back over and passes again. Just as the BMW team had told Heidfeld to let Alonso pass (to secure the double since the Spaniard still had one more pit stop to make), Alonso spins and crashes into the wall. It’s retirement for the Spaniard!

Barrichello (4th) has Kovalainen and Massa on his tail. Not far behind, Nakajima hits Button at the Casino hairpin braking. The Japanese driver returns to his pit with a broken front wing… but the wing breaks and gets under the Williams! Nakajima crashes into a pit wall. It’s a retirement.

Kubica makes his last stop. He rejoins more than 6 seconds ahead of his teammate Heidfeld. Fisichella retires after a spin that sends him into the wall. Barrichello makes a mistake and goes off the track: Glock and Trulli take advantage to pass.

Glock makes a small mistake: Trulli (who is right behind his teammate) has to brake and Massa immediately takes advantage to seize 5th place.

It’s the end of the final lap for Kubica! He claims a magnificent victory, which is his first and surely not his last. He is followed by Heidfeld and Coulthard. Glock is fourth, just ahead of Massa. Trulli is sixth, Barrichello seventh, and Vettel eighth, thus bringing 1 additional point to his team.

Kubica takes the lead in the drivers’ championship, and the BMW double allows them to take second place with a significant lead over McLaren.
