The boss of Formula One, Bernie Ecclestone, has warned the British Grand Prix and primarily its owners that he will not hesitate to remove it from the calendar in 2010 if the financial requirements are not up to par.
Discussions are underway between Ecclestone and the ‘British Racing Drivers Club’ (BRDC), and it seems that an agreement has been reached. It will cost Silverstone 11.2 million pounds, or more than 14 million euros, for 2010, and will then increase by 5% each following year.
This proposal was sent back to Ecclestone, which raises doubts about the future of the British Grand Prix even though Silverstone is ready to make improvements to the pre-established circuit.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Ecclestone stated that he was not very optimistic about the chances of a settlement from the British organization.
« The BRDC knows the terms. If they comply, we’re in business. But if they can’t, there won’t be a race in 2010. »
