Monaco GP – Red Bull is satisfied with the progress made

Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull Racing, praised his team for the step forward made in terms of performance this season.

« In general, we’ve made a big step forward since last year, both in performance and reliability, » said Horner.

The battle to finish fourth in the championship seems intense with our main competitors being Renault, Toyota, Williams, and why not Honda.

« It’s been three or four races now that we have been very competitive, just like Renault. It’s true that their engine has contributed to this improvement. Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso have had some rather satisfying races. »

Currently in fifth place in the constructor standings, Red Bull has scored ten points in the first five races of the season and has consistently finished in the top eight since the start of the season.

The Australian Marc Webber has already scored more points than in the entire year of 2007. He has finished every race except the opening one that took place in his home country, Australia, where he was involved in an accident at the beginning of the Grand Prix.

Horner stated that his team has taken several measures aimed at improving the reliability of their car.

« Reliability is always important, but the new regulations concerning the engine and the gearbox make life even more difficult, » he added.

« Since we have strengthened our team in several areas and appointed new project managers, reliability has been one of our main focuses during the winter. So far, we are keeping our fingers crossed, we are one of the few teams to have 100% mechanical reliability, a record. »

The chief technical director, Adrian Newey, also emphasized that the RB4 is, to date, meeting their expectations, but he admits that there is still room for improvement.

As a general rule, we are reasonably happy with the car since it meets our expectations. However, the package is much more effective than we had hoped.
