Sebastian Vettel will be demoted five places on the starting grid of the next Grand Prix, which will be held in Monaco next weekend. The reason being a gearbox change due to the introduction of the new Scuderia Toro Rosso car.
The German has not been spared from bad luck at the start of this season as he has been involved in first-lap accidents in three of the first four Grand Prix races. This misfortune seems to cling to him as it is now affecting his first race with the STR3.
Vettel, who crossed the finish line for the first time this year in Turkey, will therefore be penalized for the launch of the new car as it will have a completely different gearbox from that of the STR2B.
His gearbox in Turkey was not used for two Grand Prix. Therefore, he has no choice but to run with a new unit on the STR3 in Monaco.
His teammate, Sébastien Bourdais, will escape this penalty because he did not finish the Turkish Grand Prix.
