The Renault test driver, Lucas di Grassi, believes that his team can be competitive at the Monaco Grand Prix. This observation comes after three days of testing at the Paul Ricard circuit this week.
Although the former world champion, Fernando Alonso asked fans not to expect too much from his team in Monaco, particularly due to the lack of traction of the R28, di Grassi is, on the other hand, more optimistic about the situation.
« I think the parts we have tested bring some improvement, » said the Brazilian.
The car seems enjoyable to drive. I think, therefore, that we are going to be a bit closer to the leading pack. Both cars have a chance to score points. The car will be as fast as it was in Barcelona.
« We were not able to reach that speed in Turkey, but Fernando beat the Red Bull drivers and the Williams drivers. »
Di Grassi completed his first day of testing at the Paul Ricard circuit last Wednesday, but his efforts were interrupted by an engine problem in the afternoon that prevented him from setting a faster time at the end of the day.
« I think the tests went well. An engine issue interrupted our momentum in the middle of the afternoon when the track was improving more and more. Therefore, we couldn’t complete the program, » added Di Grassi.
« I could only do 146 laps before the engine gave out on us. We only used soft and super soft tires. »
