Heikki Kovalainen believes that his team, in this case McLaren, has taken a step forward in terms of performance for the Monaco Grand Prix.
The main rival, Ferrari, has won the last four races and is leading in both the constructors’ and drivers’ standings thanks to Räikkönen.
But McLaren performed well in testing at the Paul Ricard circuit, precisely in preparation for the Monaco race. Kovalainen believes that the team’s level is now higher.
The Finn, who hasn’t scored any points in the last two races, is looking for solutions to escape this negative spiral.
« I want to have a trouble-free race and be able to show that with our car we have a good pace, » said Kovalainen.
« I felt really good throughout the weekend in Turkey. Moreover, we had good tests at Paul Ricard. »
« We have certainly improved and I hope we can capitalize on this advantage in Monaco. Of all the races, Monaco is the most unpredictable Grand Prix. »
McLaren is third in the standings, 21 points behind Ferrari, while Lewis Hamilton is seven points behind Kimi Räikkönen in the drivers’ championship.
