Progressing becomes an obligation for Piquet…

Nelson Piquet was informed that he needed to improve his results as quickly as possible if he wanted to avoid too many questions about his future in Formula 1.

The 2008 campaign for the Brazilian is currently difficult, particularly during the last two races.

After a 17th place in qualifying at the Turkish Grand Prix with only 20 cars left, Renault’s sporting director Steve Nielsen stated that it’s essential for Piquet to give a new boost to his season, just as Heikki Kovalainen did in his time, in 2007.

« Well, it’s a first season in F1, » stated Nielsen on Renault’s official website.

« We saw it last year with Heikki Kovalainen. He had a difficult start to the season, then managed to turn things around, and I think Nelson Piquet will do the same. »

Nelson had a good race in Barcelona, unfortunately, he made a mistake. On Friday and Saturday during qualifying, the work was excellent only to make a mistake during the race.

« I think, therefore, rather than saying he had a disastrous start to the season, it is more appropriate to state that there have been ups and downs. »

He added: « But I’m sure Nelson will be able to turn the situation around. We saw during testing in Barcelona that he had speed, he just needs to focus. »
