BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen said he is very happy with his team’s result at the Turkish Grand Prix, even though they were never able to block Ferrari or McLaren.
Robert Kubica finished in fourth position, but he was more than 20 seconds behind the winner Felipe Massa.
After a poor qualification, Nick Heidfeld gained four positions to finish in fifth place, allowing the team to remain in second position in the constructors’ standings.
Taking into account our starting position with fifth and ninth place, I am very happy with today’s result, said Theissen.
« Kimi Räikkönen managed to overtake Robert Kubica during his first stop as we expected. On the other hand, Nick Heidfeld gained two positions during his first stop. That makes nine points in the constructors’ standings. »
Technical director Willy Rampf also praised this result, saying that nine points are more than he had anticipated before the start of the race.
« We scored nine important points. This is much more than what our forecasts indicated since we started from fifth and ninth place. We are, therefore, happy with the results. Both drivers had an error-free race. Now, we are eagerly looking forward to the Monaco Grand Prix, » he explained.
