The former boss of the Minardi team present in Formula 1 a few years ago understands Aguri Suzuki, who was forced to withdraw his Super Aguri team from the 2008 World Championship.
Minardi was a sub-team for two decades before Red Bull took control through Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2006.
« I went through the same situation as Aguri a few years ago, so I know what he’s feeling right now. I know him, he’s a great guy, » said Minardi.
Unfortunately, the world of Formula 1 is a highly competitive sector that does not suit small teams with financial problems.
Minardi believes that the sport uses small teams to its advantage when it needs them, but is no longer willing to offer them support when they need it most.
« It happened in the past with the Minardi team but also with others. The sport helps you, uses you when it finds an interest. »
« In 2006, Super Aguri was born to overshadow Honda’s decision to race without a Japanese driver, which put the manufacturer in trouble in its home country. At the time, Honda had an interest in having a satellite team from a marketing perspective. Now, it is no longer interested and is letting everything go, » he concluded.
