Super-Aguri: An Inevitable End According to Honda

The Japanese automaker, Honda, stated that there was no way for Super Aguri to continue its venture in Formula 1 unless it could support itself independently.

Super Aguri announced Tuesday morning that it is withdrawing from the championship. Honda issued a statement expressing disappointment at this news, but explaining that it did everything possible to help the former team.

« Honda supported the team as much as possible, but Aguri Suzuki, the team principal, came to meet Honda explaining his decision to withdraw from the world of Formula 1 because he is unable to establish an independent foundation for the proper functioning of his team, » Honda said.

« The withdrawal of Super-Aguri is, indeed, very disappointing for us, but we understand this decision which was inevitable. »

« We would like to express our gratitude to Super-Aguri and all the fans who supported and shared the dreams of this team fighting alongside Honda. »

Honda added that it tried to help Super Aguri by looking for investors.

Since its creation in 2005, Honda has provided full support to Super-Aguri by supplying our engines and through other financial support. Since 2007, we have been deeply involved in discussions between the team and potential sponsors and partners.

« At the beginning of the 2008 season, when the team began negotiations with MAGMA Group, Honda actively cooperated by offering many forms of support. Just when we thought that the three parties had reached an agreement, MAGMA and its backers decided not to proceed with the deal. »
