Super-Aguri confirmed that it was in the final stage of discussions for a rescue plan with the Weigl Group, a German automotive company.
The fate of the team rests on the approval of this agreement by Honda’s board of directors, which will be held early next week. A statement released on Friday indicated that the Weigl offer was serious and that both parties (Super-Aguri and Weigl) believed they could agree on a deal for the team’s survival.
The boss of Super-Aguri, Aguri Suzuki, stated: « We are glad to see that we have been able to revive the talks between Super-Aguri and Franz Weigl. »
« A partnership like the one proposed by Weigl Group would allow us to stay in the race. I hope all parties will find this proposal a realistic offer. »
Franz Josef Weigl, the head of the group, spoke with Super-Aguri during the last race weekend in Spain and stated that he was fully willing to help the team.
« We wish to express our sincerest support to the team so that it continues to be an integral part of the F1 World Championship. We wish to reassure its sponsors and partners that we are firmly committed to securing the financial future of the team. »
Super-Aguri is preparing for the Turkish Grand Prix, with the first parts being flown to Istanbul this weekend.
