Three tenths gained for Renault!

Renault’s engineering director, Pat Symonds, stated that the French team gained three-tenths of a second on the leading team thanks to the introduction of several new parts before the Spanish Grand Prix.

Renault is experiencing a rather difficult start to the season, but a major upgrade was made for Barcelona and it seems to have closed the gap in terms of performance with Ferrari, McLaren, and BMW.

Fernando Alonso managed to secure a spot on the front row of the starting grid at the Spanish Grand Prix for the first time this year. His race battle was abruptly halted by an engine failure.

Symonds believes that his team has made a big step forward, even though the Briton acknowledges that the gap is still large with Ferrari.

« I can say that in Barcelona, in the conditions we encountered, we probably gained three-tenths. Will it be the same in Monaco and Turkey, I’m not sure, » Symonds explained.

He added: « The direction is good, a lot of things have been worked on. The gap is still very big with Ferrari, so there is still a lot to do but we are happy because we are heading in the right direction. »

He revealed that there have been changes in 19 areas in total and even though he admits there won’t be any more updates of this magnitude, the team will not stop working on new things.

« We are not used to storing data, » he commented.
