The Williams team has been showing offensive throughout the start of the Spanish weekend. The British team had very good free practice sessions 2 and 3 this morning and yet in qualifying this afternoon, the performance was lacking.
Neither Nakajima nor Rosberg managed to enter the final phase of qualifying, and the car was becoming increasingly unstable.
Kazuki Nakajima secures a 12th position in qualifying here: thus achieving the best performance of his career in qualifying and notably surpassing his teammate, Nico Rosberg, for the first time.
Kazuki Nakajima – 14th and 12th:
« It was a bit complicated today for the team, however, on a personal level, I am quite satisfied. It’s my best qualifying result. Just a few hundredths and I would have made it to Q3 and the top 10. »
« The race tomorrow promises to be long and difficult, but we will optimize our strategies to the maximum! »
Nico Rosberg – 12th and 15th:
« I’m not at all happy with this day. I struggled with the balance of the FW30, very bad, but the only things we could adjust during qualifying were the front wing and the tire pressure… »
« I won’t hide that starting 15th will be complicated for us tomorrow, but at least we can choose our fuel levels… »
Sam Michael – Technical Director:
« Of course, we are not where we wanted to be, which is in front of the top 10, like yesterday during the trials, but we have a good strategy and everything can change in the standings. »
