Report – Saturday – Toyota suffers… but for an unknown reason

The Toyota team was expected this weekend in Barcelona after the good performances in Shakir three weeks ago. However, the Japanese team does not seem to be comfortable here, or worse, they are unable to adapt to the always-changing track conditions.

Trulli still places the TF108 in 8th position, ahead of a BMW, but admits to being unhappy with his qualification. Glock, on the other hand, remains in anticipation.

Jarno Trulli – 5th and 8th:

« It was a difficult session. The wind had a lot of negative impacts on the car and played an important role. Unfortunately, we have never been very strong in these conditions. We managed to qualify in the top 10, but I am not at all satisfied with my qualification from an overall perspective. »

« The race will be complicated tomorrow. All the teams are close together, and we will have to give our best to be ahead… »

Timo Glock – 10th and 14th:

« Our goal was to get into Q3, but clearly, we didn’t stick to it! I was happy with my first phase with a good time, however, in Q2, nothing went as planned. I felt like I made no mistakes and was going fast, yet for some unknown reason, I didn’t improve my times. Apparently, it was the same problem for Trulli…

The car proved to be increasingly slippery and starting in 14th position will be difficult tomorrow, nevertheless, anything is still possible… In Bahrain, I moved from 13th position to 9th.

Pascal Vasselon – Chassis Manager:

« Barcelona is the circuit where we are most frequently for our winter tests, and yet every year for the race, we have to reassess all our knowledge because the conditions have completely changed! »

« Overall, we can still be satisfied: Trulli is on the 4th row and Glock had a good start to qualifying, so we will continue to attack.

« Additionally, I am eager to be at the race. It seems that the quantities of fuel vary greatly among the frontrunners, and the pressures endured by the tires will be crucial in making a difference… »
