Toyota has been on an upward trend since the Malaysian Grand Prix, as evidenced by its emergence as one of the main forces behind the leading trio. The Japanese team has overtaken Renault and is on track to do the same with Williams.
All this, thanks to Jarno Trulli. Experience currently takes precedence over the enthusiasm of a Timo Glock, who is struggling to break into the Top 10 both in qualifying and in the race. Toyota has rolled up its sleeves to make aerodynamic changes that it was able to test on this Catalonia circuit.
Jarno Trulli – Racing Driver
I’m very happy with my season start, the new car is performing well. The team has worked very hard and we have achieved the results we deserved. But I don’t get carried away because I know we must continue to work tirelessly to maintain this position and hope to close the gap with the top three teams.
« We were pretty good last week in Barcelona for testing with the new package. So we should be in good shape this weekend, but the battle is so tough that we can’t afford the slightest mistake. I think we’ve proven that we are, for now, the leader of the second group. »
« The goal in Spain is to qualify in the top 10 and finish the race in the points. »
Timo Glock – Racing driver
« My performance in Bahrain was encouraging and I’m sure I could have scored a point if I hadn’t had the little gearbox problem. Finishing a race and battling in the top 10 feels good for morale. »
« I think we have made progress since the beginning of the year, and I hope my results will continue to improve steadily. I was disappointed not to make it to Q3 in Bahrain. So that is my primary goal this weekend. »
« My two test days last week were very positive and the car adapts well to the new aerodynamic package, so there’s no reason not to be optimistic. It’s always difficult to gauge the performance level of teams during testing, especially when they are using slick tires. »
Pascal Vasselon – Technical Director
« We are satisfied with our start to the season. The points scored by Jarno Trulli in Malaysia and Bahrain have reinforced our pre-season expectations. But beyond that, it is gratifying to see that both Jarno and Timo are competitive in terms of intermediate times.
« It’s nice to return to races in Europe and especially Barcelona, which is usually a good way to check the competitiveness of our cars. A significant update has been made, and all the main aerodynamic features of the car have been improved. We tested the new package in Barcelona last week, and the results were in line with our expectations. We hope to score points with both our cars. »
