The European Union Commissioner for the Environment, Stavros Dimas, will investigate possible irregularities in the construction project of the new urban circuit in Valencia.
Mr. Dimas stated that he will look into possible irregularities that go against European legislation.
This inquiry follows questions raised by members of an environmental group including David Hammerstein, Raül Romeva i Rueda, and Monica Frassoni.
It is also said that there could be an investigation into the noise levels that will be reached during the race.
« With these people, it is possible that the government of the Valencia region has not fulfilled its duties, » stated Hammerstein.
« The excessive speeds of Formula 1 could create serious problems for the Valencia government in complying with European legislation. »
The new circuit will host the European Grand Prix, which will take place on August 24th.
