The fact that Fernando Alonso could become the teammate of reigning world champion Kimi Räikkönen would not be wished for within the Scuderia, at least according to the remarks of President Luca di Montezemolo.
Alonso denied this month that he had a clause in his contract with Renault that allowed him to leave the French team for Ferrari at the end of this season.
However, the Spaniard added that contracts were generally very flexible, as was the case with his departure from McLaren last year.
The rumor of a possible departure of Felipe Massa from Ferrari, world champion in 2007, keeps growing this season.
The Brazilian won the last Bahrain Grand Prix, and Montezemolo states that Alonso would not be the ideal driver.
« Aligning a Räikkönen-Alonso would mean wanting to hurt oneself. I want a perfect equality between the two drivers so that they work together, » explained the Ferrari president on Tuesday for the Gazzetta dello Sport.
As for Alonso, he stated to El Pais on Monday that his future with Renault will depend on the team’s ability to provide him with a reliable and high-performing car.
« There are many factors to evaluate. My first option is to stay with Renault, if we manage to create a winning car. The truth is, we are getting closer to it. »
« But what I want is to have a single-seater with which I can win. There are several like Williams, Toyota, BMW, and Ferrari that are always a step above. I wouldn’t like to fight endlessly just trying to reach Q3 in qualifying, » concluded the Iberian.
