Todt with Mosley, for better or for worse…

The former Ferrari team principal, Jean Todt, has given his full support to Max Mosley, stating that he is surprised by the criticism the FIA president is facing regarding his private life.

Mosley will face a vote of confidence on June 3 regarding his position following allegations made in the ‘News of the World’ newspaper. The Frenchman supports his longtime friend.

In an interview with the Journal de Dimanche, Todt stated that he had no doubts about Mosley’s ability to remain at the head of the FIA.

« He is a true president. He knows his organization very well because he is a hard worker, rigorous and reliable. He is very intelligent, and of rare elegance, » commented Todt.

« He knows how to assert leadership when necessary, with international authority. He has worked very hard for security. »

« When you look at what auto racing was like 30 years ago, particularly at the track level, what he has accomplished is remarkable. The number of lives saved under his leadership is absolutely phenomenal. He made some brave decisions, sometimes against everyone’s opinions. »

« His work for safety in racing has allowed for enormous progress. I am therefore astonished to see that people can focus on things that have nothing to do with his status, » he continued.

Todt added that the controversy caused by these revelations did not change his relationship with Mosley, who has not attended any official meetings since the scandal broke.

I have a very good relationship with him. I regularly have conversations with him by phone, and I don’t see why that would no longer be the case.

When asked if he thought Mosley should continue his term, the Frenchman stated: « That’s not the question. If you ask me if I am satisfied with the actions of the FIA president since he took office, I can tell you that he has done a very good job. »

« So for this purpose, I hope he will have the opportunity to do his work for many more years. That being said, we must respect the FIA members during the meeting on June 3. »
