Rubens Barrichello confirmed this week that he is looking for a new contract to stay in the race beyond 2008.
The Formula 1 veteran is currently under contract with Honda, but it expires at the end of the season.
According to the official F1 site, the 35-year-old Brazilian is the new record holder for the number of races contested. And for good reason, he is on par with Riccardo Patrese with 256 Grand Prix to his name.
But even though he is about to write a page in Formula 1 history next weekend in Barcelona, Barrichello stated that he does not plan to retire anytime soon.
« I would like to be present in racing for as long as I can, » he commented to the Schweriner Volkszeitung newspaper.
He admitted that he would like to stay with Honda rather than find himself on the market for the 2009 season.
« It is no secret that my contract expires at the end of the year. I want to extend it because I believe Ross Brawn’s arrival can only be beneficial for Honda. »
« 2008 will certainly not be my last season because now, I want to finish my career with more than 300 Grand Prix under my belt, » added Barrichello.
He also revealed that following the updates to the RA108 for the Barcelona race, the next major step will be for the British Grand Prix in July.
After Silverstone, Honda will then focus entirely on its 2009 car.
