Räikkönen: The McLaren threat is very real

Kimi Räikkönen does not want to exclude McLaren from the list of competitors for Ferrari. In the latest races, the Woking team has not particularly shone, while BMW-Sauber continues to astonish.

She finished on the podium in every race this 2008 season. Both cars even crossed the checkered flag ahead of both McLarens in Bahrain two weeks ago.

But the reigning world champion believes that the positions could easily be reversed over the next three races, which will take place on very different circuits.

« Barcelona is one of the most difficult circuits for the cars, then after that it’s Turkey and then Monaco, where anything can happen, » he commented.

« We hope to keep the upper hand as was the case during the last two races. »

« If you don’t have a good package, then it’s difficult not to make a mistake, » added the Finn about Hamilton and his McLaren team.

Renault could join the battle for the front grid positions. And for good reason, Fernando Alonso finished first in the Barcelona tests in Wednesday’s session.

« I have no idea what the other teams did on the first three days of testing, but I heard that Renault has made a step forward. »

Räikkönen also participated in these tests for the first time yesterday, but the rain prevented him from fully expressing himself.

We tried a few small things, but in these conditions, you don’t really feel like you’re doing something constructive.

« But, on the other days, Ferrari was present and it seems that this is positive. »
