Ralf Schumacher made his DTM debut last weekend at Hockenheim. The German finished 14th, overtaking one car on the track and another thanks to pit stops. Despite this less than gratifying position, the former Formula 1 driver is satisfied with his debut.
Overall, I am quite happy. I didn’t make any mistakes and my intermediate times were good. I could be in the rhythm of the upper part of the table, but the Audi cars were a bit more competitive this weekend than the Mercedes, said Schumacher.
I think this media frenzy around my arrival in DTM will subside. In any case, it contributes to the discipline and I tell myself it’s normal. I am happy to be part of this new family.
Regarding the second race taking place this weekend, the younger brother of the seven-time F1 world champion added: « I think the atmosphere will be a bit more relaxed. It’s my first time at Oschersleben, just like last week at Hockenheim. This race always draws the crowds. I want to thank the many supporters. »
« We must try to gain positions in qualifying. In Hockenheim, a few hundredths of a second would have been enough to be much better placed. Oschersleben is a completely different circuit from the others, and we still have to wait a bit to figure out how to handle it. I’ve already done testing but racing is something different. »
« I am still working on my new status as a DTM driver. And the only way to succeed is to move forward step by step, » concluded the German.
