Slick tires: the innovation of the century for Liuzzi

Vitantonio Liuzzi described Bridgestone’s slick tires as incredible after testing them for the first time in Barcelona during the first day of private testing.

The test driver for Force India is working on the aerodynamic configuration for 2009. Slick tires are to be taken into consideration for the future season. The Japanese equipment supplier has offered all Formula 1 teams this type of tire for testing.

Liuzzi, who had never tried these tires, said he was surprised by their performance.

« It was incredible because I did not expect these tires to be so effective, » said Liuzzi from Barcelona.

« I believe they were even more flexible than before, these tires are incredible especially in the first two laps. »

Liuzzi had already driven with slick tires, but that goes back to 2004 when he was in F3000.

The Italian added that with grooved tires in the 2009 configuration, the situation was very difficult, if not almost impossible.

« When we were driving with grooved tires, it was impossible. But with slick tires, we made very good progress. »

« It was a very good feeling. With so much grip, it reminded me of my time in go-karts that I loved! » He concluded.
