Jonathan Summerton won today, with one weekend left in the season, the first for the United States in A1 Grand Prix. The young American had a very good start and took the lead in the first corner. He finished nearly 10 seconds ahead of Portugal and 15 ahead of Ireland.
Néel Jani, who could have won the championship with a second place in Shanghai today, could only secure 5th position after his pole position. He lost two places at the start and got stuck in second gear for nearly 15 seconds, losing another 3 places.
Adam Carroll steps onto the podium, just ahead of New Zealand, which thus overtakes Switzerland and keeps mathematical chances of winning the title at Brands Hatch.
Franck Montagny started 10th in the second race of the A1 Grand Prix. He ran a solid race and gained two positions. He thus scores points for eighth place, insufficient to hope for the title as in 2005/06.
Cheng Fu Cong, at home with the A1 Team China, finishes 15th, five places better than his qualifying position.
The Netherlands and Canada are far behind after encountering some problems.

In the championship and with one weekend left in the season, Switzerland leads with 150 points, 29 ahead of New Zealand. The latter can only win the title if Jonny Reid wins both races while at the same time Switzerland withdraws from both as well. In case of a tie, Switzerland, with more victories, would be crowned.
France remains in third position, with 111 points, 12 more than Great Britain.
Next and final race at Brands Hatch (GP), May 4, 2008.
