Gary Paffett admits that a victory in the first two races of the season would be historic. Something he achieved last year at Oschersleben.

The 2005 champion became the first man to win a race in an old car, specifically a 2006 Mercedes, during the second race of the 2007 season.

The driver, who is preparing to spend a second year in an older car, has a more consistent approach this year.

« We won a race last year. It’s much more than we hoped for, but we can’t imagine repeating such an achievement, » said Paffett.

« It would of course be great to do it again. We need to be more consistent not just in one race but across all the races of the season. »

The 27-year-old Briton scored points in five races in 2007 and only broke into the top 8 at the end of the season when Mercedes and Audi developed their new cars.

« The car is much better than last year’s model, » he added.

« What we have achieved in recent weeks seems promising. During the tests, we were already as fast as during the second race of the year in Oschersleben, » concluded Paffett, who finished ninth in the standings last year.
