Felipe Massa believes he is capable of winning the Bahrain Grand Prix. And for good reason, the Brazilian dominated the free practice sessions 1 and 2 at the Sakhir circuit.
The Ferrari driver set a time of 1’31”420. His teammate, Kimi Räikkönen, finished nearly a second behind during the second session.
Massa has not yet opened his account since he had to retire during the first two Grand Prix races.
He claims he would be happy if he could finish on the podium on Sunday, keeping a victory goal in mind.
« I love this track, I’ve always felt very good here. Hopefully I can say the same on Sunday, » he said.
« I haven’t scored any points yet in 2008, so a podium would be welcome. We can fight for the victory and therefore the 10 points that come with it. »
He added: « I did a very good job today. I feel comfortable at the start of the weekend. We should aim for a double with Kimi as always… »
Ferrari completed six days of testing during the winter break at the Sakhir circuit.
« It is difficult to imagine that the tests this winter could give us an advantage. The days go by but are not the same, the track was dirty today, » commented Massa.
« It was the first day and for a first day, the conditions weren’t so bad, so it is very difficult to make a comparison. To this day, the car is better than it was this winter. »
