During the second of the ten events on their 2008 calendar, the Munchi’s Ford team once again scored points. These points still allow them to stay ahead of Suzuki despite having two fewer rallies under their belt. It was the reigning Argentine champion, Federico Villagra, who scored points for the sixth place finish, his best result in WRC.

However, the Rally of Argentina did not take place without a scare. He lost more than ten minutes due to a damaged exhaust. Villagra is now eighth in the drivers’ championship.

« It’s great to achieve my best result in WRC, especially at home. I live in Cordoba, the welcome I received was incredible. I’ve been racing in Argentina for years but I’ve never encountered such conditions. It was really important to make it to the finish, and I’m happy to have succeeded in this event. I’m looking forward to being in Jordan. It will be a new challenge for everyone, and I think it will help us. »

Villagra’s teammate, Luis Perez Companc, retired while he was in ninth place in the penultimate stage of the first day. The Argentine went off the road eight kilometers from the finish, damaging the suspension of his Ford Focus RS WRC.

Perez Companc could not rejoin in Superally on Saturday. His car remained stuck in the stage until 5:00 am the next day.

“I was really disappointed to retire during my national event and in front of all our supporters, but these things happen,” explains Perez Companc. “In SS8, we went off in a very muddy section. The front of the Focus was hit. The team came to retrieve the car but got stuck in traffic jams. The conditions were too bad for spectators to move around. If we could have fixed the car in time, we would have continued. I was satisfied with our times before the exit and I am confident ahead of the Jordan Rally. The conditions should be better there than this weekend!”
