After clocking the fastest time on the first day of testing in Oschersleben, Mattias Ekström was involved in a serious accident. The Swede destroyed the rear of his new Audi A4 by crashing head-on into the safety barriers at an approximate speed of 150 km/h.
« I’m not feeling very well, I’m going to see the doctor. I don’t know what happened, but the impact was violent, » stated Ekström, just after his accident, who will need rest.
« Ekström very likely has a concussion. We will need to examine him, and if his health condition is stable, a hospital visit won’t be mandatory, » said Steffi Höcker from Audi.
The car is apparently in a deplorable state. It must be transported to Ingolstadt for repairs. There would reportedly be a shortage of spare parts for the new Audi A4.
The rear brakes are believed to be the cause of the accident.
