The McLaren Mercedes team will not, unlike in Australia and Malaysia, be in the fifth pit garage during the Bahrain Grand Prix. The organizers of the Sakhir race have stated that the British team will be placed in the last garage of the pit straight. McLaren finished in last position in the 2007 championship.
Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, the owner of the venue, stated: « We believe that placing McLaren in the last position in the pits is in compliance with the rules of this sport. McLaren did not score any points in the Constructors’ Championship in 2007. »
« But in Bahrain, we do our best to ensure that fans of each team can sit in front of their favorite team to be closest to the action. Unfortunately, on this occasion, we must apologize to McLaren fans as this is a case of force majeure. »
